THEY DIDN’T come up short this time.
Julian Walcott scored 20 points and Shawn Ifill added 18 as Patriots went on a decisive 21-8 fourth-quarter run to finally capture that elusive First Division basketball title via Tuesday’s 66-52 Game 3 win over Newbury at the Wildey Gym.
It’s the first league championship of any kind for the Husbands,St James club in its ten-year history after Patriots routinely fell short at the final hurdle – including successive finals losses in 2013 and 2014.
And they seemed headed for despair yet again after throwing away a one-game lead and a quick 10-2 start to the championship decider with Premier League promotion on the line.
