Danny weakens to a tropical storm
AT 8 P.M. THE centre of Tropical Storm Danny was located near latitude 15.6 degrees north, longitude 54.1 degrees west.
Danny is moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h). This general motion is expected to continue through Monday.
On the forecast track, the centre of Danny is expected to be near the Leeward Islands by Sunday night or Monday morning.
A tropical storm watch therefore remains in effect for Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla, Saba and St Eustatius, St Maarten, Guadeloupe, St Barthelemy, and St Martin.
Interests elsewhere in the US and British Virgin Islands, PuertoRico, and the Dominican Republic have been urged to monitor the progress of Danny.
The National Hurricane Center said additional watches or warnings may be required for portions of these areas tonight or Sunday.
Danny’s maximum sustained winds are estimated to be 65 mph with higher gusts and additional weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from the centre. (NB)
