RAMON GITTENS knows what kinds of performances are expected against the big boys of track and field.

The Barbadian sprinter brought out his best running shoes yesterday in Beijing, China, and qualified for the semi-finals of the 100 metres at a star-studded IAAF World Championships.

Gittens ran a personal best of 10.02 seconds, finishing second in his heat behind Qatar’s Femi Ogunode (9.9 secs) to earn a spot in today’s semi-final.

Fellow Sprinter Levi Cadogan wasn’t as fast, but also qualified after finishing fourth in 10.12.

The semi-finals will run tomorrow night and Cadogan has been drawn in lane two of the second of three heats. (BA/PG)
