EIGHTY-YEAR-old Lorene Marshall, a resident of the Geriatric Hospital’s Day Care Unit, was not shy in asking Colonel Alvin Quintyne for his hand in marriage yesterday.

“You have a wife? I want to marry you,” the spritely senior joked with the Barbados Defence Force’s Chief of Staff, as they sat together on a bench donated by the army’s summer camp programme, Camp Energy.

The 16 children involved in the camp also helped to plant a vegetable garden for the elderly folk.

BDF welfare officer Harriet Clarke said they decided to do something different this year and chose the Geriatric Hospital.

Quintyne also pledged his continued support to the institution, pointing out that it was important for children and the elderly to interact.
