FORMER MONARCHS DEACONS barely escaped defeat at the hands of Cawmere when the Goddard Enterprises Limited division 1 volleyball league continued Monday nightat the Wildey Gymnasium.

Cawmere welcomed back former junior national setter Jon Jo Reece, who is now a vet, to unleashbig attacker Shawn Simpson as the Waterford lads battled from two sets down to hold Deacons overthe precipice. However, a series of simple errorsby Cawmere allowed Deacons to escape 25-18, 25-15, 21-25, 15-25, 17-15.

Although Deacons have looked suspect and shortof leadership following an injury to Sheldon Roach, young Turks Kyle Browne and Ahkeem Mayers pounded Cawmere, with Simpson and former junior national captain Rafael Lovell keeping the hopes alive of tripping their higher ranked opponents.

After pulling back the third set, Cawmere wrecked Deacons in the fourth as Simpson relished the constant feed from Reece. Shockingly, Browne,Mayers and their backup crew stuttered as Cawmere brought the small crowd of spectators alive with exciting blocks and attacks.
