THE NATIONAL UNION of Public Workers (NUPW) says it is keeping a close eye on the proposed restructuring of the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA), even though it has received no official communication.
NUPW president Akanni McDowall said the union was still awaiting a reply to a written request it made to the SSA board for a meeting.
While stating that the NUPW had not been consulted on any plans to restructure, McDowall told the DAILY NATION it was his personal view that the SSA workers who stood in solidarity with the forcibly retired Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC) workers by engaging in strike action were being “affected” as a result.
“Those workers to my mind, and I am speaking personally . . . are being affected because they would have been upfront in the protest action, which is unfair to them,” McDowall said.
