New drug ‘threat’

YOUNG PEOPLE are experimenting with all types of drugs and the latest attraction is the use of mind-altering designer drugs.

It is against this background that local authorities are bringing those who dispense and import legal drugs up to speed on how prescribed medication can be mixed to create an illegal substance for consumption.

According to Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs Adriel Brathwaite, new synthetic drugs were wreaking havoc in the United States and Europe and could be available here in Barbados based on feedback from colleagues on the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD).

Brathwaite was speaking to the media at the opening ceremony of the five-day National Seminar On Illicit Drug Production, Synthetic Drugs And New Psychoactive Substance at the Crane Resort yesterday.
