Nothing demonic about bench art
THE ARTIST whose depictions are on a bench at the centre of controversy said the characters are based on Greek mythology, not demons.
Ronald Williams, a Barbados Community College (BCC) fine arts graduate, said when he conceptualised the designs on the bench located in Independence Square, The City, he went outside the box.
“I wanted to put out a beautiful bench, but not the typical Barbados beautiful bench, so I did something different. Each character has a different personality that was taken into account for the creation,” he told the MIDWEEKNATIOn yesterday.
He said the characters depicted “the pretty boy, the party animal, the conscious one, the ‘bad’ man and the trickster. Williams said he studied designs from practical and renaissance images, and those from the baroque era.
