TRIDENT Sports’ Brand ambassador and West Indies Women’s cricketer Hayley Matthews yesterday morning donated a quantity of cricket gear to her alma mater, Harrison College.

The 17-year-old former student told the packed assembly hall prior to making the presentation to the Under-19 school captain Dominic Hart, that despite leaving school prematurely to follow her passion, she was delighted for the opportunity to give something back to the institution that helped fashion her career in both athletics and cricket.

“I will always be indebted to Harrison College and the persons here that have been instrumental in fashioning my chosen career as a cricketer. There is no doubt that academics are very important, but at the same time I urge you students to follow your dreams and to aim for the stars. Each of us has a talent that we are blessed with [and] should use it for our advancement,” Matthews told the students.

Speaking to NATION SPORTS after the presentation, Matthews, whose selection for the West Indies meant that she had to give up classroom studies to be on tour, said she has plans to further her education.
