OVER 100 young athletes turned out yesterday to participate in the Commonwealth Relay, which was staged to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Barbados Commonwealth Society.

They braved the sweltering afternoon conditions to run 30 400-metre legs from the Barbados Olympic Association’s Wildey headquarters to the Clock Tower at the Garrison. The relay culminated with the baton being passed to Her Royal Highness Princess Anne.

Youth Commonwealth Games gold medallist Rivaldo Leacock, who started the relay, also got the opportunity to get up close with Queen Elizabeth’s daughter.
