Thorne launches BLP political career

IN A  PROCESS that took less than three minutes, Queen’s Counsel Ralph Thorne got the green light from the Christ Church South branch of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) to be their representative in the next general election.

His name was put forward by Stella Lady St John, wife of the late Prime Minister Sir Harold St John at the St Christopher Primary School last night in a process that ran without any hiccups.

The mood among the scores of members in attendance was relaxed and, at times, jovial, as they quickly agreed to close off nominations after general secretary Dr Jerome Walcott – the former representative who announced he was bowing out of the race just weeks ago – asked if there were any other nominations.

The new BLP caretaker was heralded with loud cheers as he stood up to make his maiden speech.
