Bajan trainer makes impact in Florida
BARBADIAN TRAINER Saffie Joseph Jr rose to the top of the class on the international circuit when he recorded a defining career stakes win with Saraguaro at Gulfstream Park in Florida on Saturday.
Ridden by Eddie Castro, Saraguaro won the $150 000 Florida Sire Foolish Pleasure Stakes over one mile and one sixteenth. Owned by Thoroughbred Acquisition Group and Saffie Joseph, the chestnut gelding, who was sent off at the long odds of 19/1, moved into a challenging position with three furlongs to go after racing wide early.
Turning into the home stretch the pair confronted the long-time leader Sing Praises who had attempted to make all the running.
