Not enough

DON’T BE FOOLED by the heavy rains of the past few days. It has actually been a relatively dry hurricane season.

And this, says a Barbados Water Authority (BWA) official, could have serious implications for the island’s aquifers and Barbadian taps next year.

Rainfall figures for September, said meteorologist Rosalind Blenman, have been “way below” the average figure for the same month of previous years.

Blenman, who was speaking yesterday in the wake of heavy showers that drenched the island for most of yesterday morning, said the total rainfall for September was “less than half of what we are accustomed to getting”.
