MONDAY MAN: Crafting a living from ‘root to shoot’

Sixty-five years ago, Emanuel Worrell was born in Hillaby, St Andrew.

His entire lineage spent their lives working in agriculture and when it came time for him to pursue a career, his parents believed he would follow suit.

And Emanuel did, for a time, but like any other teenager, he was mulish and instead, resolved to carve out his own career path.

“I didn’t want to be in the fields, I wanted a skill,” he recounted to the DAILY NATION during an interview at his workshop at Lower Estate, St George.

Ultimately, this meant he had to go against the grain of his parents’ wishes but, as he emphasised, “a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do”.
