Chief: Swan Street more fire secure

THE FIRE CHIEF is confident businesses in Swan Street, the City, are doing enough to comply with fire safety regulations.

After a tour yesterday of some stores along the busy street, Acting Chief Fire Officer Errol Maynard told the media his thoughts.

“We are trying to educate the managers and owners of businesses in Bridgetown and Swan Street especially, as we know this is an area of concern. Over the past couple weeks, our fire prevention officers would have been doing work with these business owners as to what they should do if there’s a fire.

“Many businesses are taking the necessary preventative measures. We still have a few we need to work with, but we recognise some buildings do not have the capacity to build an alternative exit, so we are working with them to put in compensatory factors.
