‘Held to ransom’

THE MOTHER who put a recording of a contentious meeting with Parkinson Memorial School principal Jeff Broomes on social media says her children’s education is being “held to ransom” because of her actions.

Lydia Collymore told the WEEKEND NATION that her 12-year-old son and 14-year-old daughter had not been to school for the past three weeks and it was time for the Ministry of Education to intervene.

Collymore and her sister Ruth recorded their encounter with Broomes after he summoned Collymore to a meeting at the school on September 23. The recording was then shared on Facebook.

A clearly irate Broomes could be heard demanding that Ruth leave his office. “I called a parent.  I don’t deal with sisters,” he said repeatedly.
