Smith Classic brings T20 thrills for fans

Night cricket made a welcome return to the Lumber Company Ground in Waterford on Friday night.

Hundreds of cricket-thirsty fans flocked to the island’s spiritual home for nocturnal tapeball cricket where they gleefully lapped up the light-hearted encounter between tournament-patron Dwayne Smith’s XI and a “Queen’s” Celebrity XI led by celebrated songwriter/calypsonian Eric Lewis, that signalled the launch of the inaugural Dwayne Smith T20 Classic.

The tournament, coordinated by the Spooners Hill-based Good Intentions Group, commences in earnest on October 29 and will feature 12 teams divided into two zones of six each who will compete for a first prize of $3 000.
