DEAR CHRISTINE: We believers must stand up for God

Dear Christine,

What is this world coming to?

On March 10, 2010, I got the shock of my life when I turned to Page 10A of MIDWEEK NATION newspaper and saw an article under the headline Family Ties. It was the story of Rocky Gallaway and Reginald Stanley (two black men) with big smiles on their faces, holding twin daughters, after they were married by a Reverend Sylvia E. Sumter. This was when the first gay marriage was made legal in Washington, United States.

What puzzled me was what kind of mother would give up her baby daughters to two homosexuals to raise as their own? In addition, what kind of “reverend” would marry two men as husband and husband? Clearly, it is stated in the Bible that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of this type of behaviour. I am sure that Reverend Sylvia must know that God condemns two persons of the same sex having sexual relationships with each other.

According to Leviticus 20: 13:“If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death. Their blood will be on their own heads. They have changed the truth of God into a lie.”

“Who knowing the judgment of God that those who commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” (Romans 1: 32.)

None among Rocky, Reginald, “Reverend Sumter”, Elton John, his companion David Furnish or those who legalise gay marriages around the world appear to know what happened with Sodom and Gomorrah.

What examples are being set by countries around the world? Do they really believe they can put the devil in the place of God? Don’t they know that lawlessness will bring the wrath of God?

What Bible does “Reverend Sylvia” reads and which “god” is she worshipping?

True believers of God and soldiers of the Cross would stand up for Jesus, just like sister Kim David did recently in Kentucky, United States, when she was imprisoned for refusing to issue a marriage license to a gay couple. She stood up for God and His Son against evildoers and the workers of iniquity, according to  Psalm 94: 16.

– R. Cumberbatch

Dear R. Cumberbatch:

I initially felt like responding to your letter by simply saying, “Welcome to the world of End Time prophecy.” After all, the Word declares that as it was in the days of Noah so shall it be before the Son of God makes His second appearance.

Clearly, you are passionate and very annoyed at what is taking place in the earth today, but if you are a true believer (and I believe you are), you are not to be surprised or “shocked” by such happenings. Prophecy must be fulfilled and can only be fulfilled. From what I have personally read in The Bible, as the End Time is being ushered in, we will all see an escalation of wickedness, hatred, deaths, killing and persecution of Christians and the likes. That’s what The Bible says. I am therefore tempted to say, ‘Sit back, relax and let the Living Word of God unfold ‘as those things which must take place in the earth begin to occur’.” No one has to be a Bible scholar to understand the times in which we are living.

So again I say, “Welcome to the world of End Time prophecy.” What God said would take place must occur and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about it. Of course, true believers must continue to “pray without ceasing” for every man and woman in the earth (regardless of their faith) and for the salvation of souls.

You are right in saying that true believers will stand up for what is right in the eyes of God. While your letter could be offensive to some, I believe you do have the right [and freedom] to stand up for your faith and what you believe in.

In fact, if I may quote you, “True believers of God and soldiers of the Cross would stand up for Jesus.”
