Church urged to join HIV fight
CHURCHES HAVE been told of the role they can play in tackling the spread of HIV and helping Barbados achieve the United Nations goal of no more new transmissions by 2030.
UNAIDS executive director Michel Sidibé said “science alone will not make us win this battle if we do not foster the link with church, if we do not foster the link with social change. It will never happen”.
Sidibé, was speaking at the Collymore Rock Church of the Nazarene, on the topic of Inclusion And The Role Of The Church In Creating An Enabling Environment For People Living With HIV this morning.
“We need the church to help us reduce the new infections. We need the church to make sure that our young girls are protected. We need the church to make sure that family concept becomes very strong. We need the church to make sure that we will end this epidemic by 2030,” he said. (LK)
