NATIONALS OF CARICOM member states are being urged to act now to ensure they secure a CARICOM skills certificate so they are able to capitalise on regional job opportunities.

Executive director of the Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC), Valda Alleyne, said that some applicants waited too late to seek the $100 certificate, otherwise known as the free movement certificate.

“When we find applicants call us it is because they found an opportunity in the newspaper or online and they want to go now and they want this certificate now . . . . Sometimes we get the verifications early and sometimes we don’t and all the time that person is under pressure,” she said.

And she added that sometimes opportunities can be missed because the certificate verification takes a minimum of eight weeks.

Alleyne spoke at a CARICOM “skilled national drive” at the Students’ Guild of the University of the West Indies. (TG)
