THE WINDIES can now finally count their blessings from the Big Three’s takeover of cricket.

Literally.

West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) chief executive officer Michael Muirhead said he preferred the ICC’s new method of “participation payment”, as the WICB could better plan its finances now the board knew exactly how much money it was slated to receive on a yearly basis.

Muirhead expressed the sentiment after yesterday’s announcement that cricket’s governing body would pay the seven full-member boards US$10 million each over the next eight years as part of the new Test Cricket Fund.

“It’s definitely better [than the previous arrangement] in terms of managing our financial situation in regards to things like keeping programmes consistent over the year because we will know how much funds we have to run the particular programmes and exactly what we have in reserve,” said Muirhead in a telephone interview with NATIONSPORT.
