Chase defies Tonge lashes

AIDED BY SHODDY CATCHING on the part of the Leeward Islands Hurricanes’ fielders, Roston Chase resisted exceptional bowling by veteran pacer Gavin Tonge to prop up Barbados Pride’s batting on the first day of their fifth-round match of the Regional Professional Cricket League Four-Day Championship at Kensington Oval.

Chase, who lived a charmed life, closed the day five runs short of what would be his second first-class century, helping the local franchise to a healthy 272 for six in the process.

The 23-year-old right-handed batsman has so far spent a minute short of four hours at the crease, facing 191 balls and counting 13 fours in his fortuitous knock.
