Friendship sees mums through tough times
Katrina Gibbons, Danielle Thompson and Leandra Catlyn are three friends whose tight bond has been formed through motherhood.
All three are young mothers, having found themselves pregnant at a time in their lives when the responsibility of taking care of another human life was not in their scope or plan. They all say they just did not know how to cope with a baby.
But now 24, Katrina is the mother of a three-year-old daughter and is expecting a second child in three months; 25-year-old Danielle is the mother of a three-year-old son and is also expecting her second child next month, while Leandra, 22, has a two-year-old son.
The three young mothers have just completed what the executive director of the Barbados Family Planning Association Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland describes as “perhaps our most important social programme”.
