Disabled mother faces eviction
INSTEAD OF CHRISTMAS GIFTS, the fear of being homeless is mounting for a disabled St Michael mother of four.
Since the National Housing Corporation (NHC) threatened to evict her from her Valery, Brittons Hill, St Michael apartment in June, Dweighta Cumberbatch said her rent was once again in arrears and she was therefore seeking financial assistance.
Her arrears currently stand at just over $6 000.
The 25-year-old woman said she was able to remain in the apartment when a lump sum owed was paid by the Poverty Alleviation Bureau following an appeal by former minister of social transformation Hamilton Lashley.
