Edwards out front in chess
AFTER FOUR rounds of the 2015 joint Barbados Under-16 and Under-18 chess championship, ace road tennis star Emar Edwards of Combermere has smashed his way to the top of the leader board by winning all four of his games so far.
As there were only four official Under-18 players present, this group had to be combined with the Under-16 section to make up a two dozen player field in action at the Barbados Chess Club.
This has made for an exciting and competitive event. Edwards struck the lead when he defeated Shane Skinner in round four, but had already caused an earlier upset when he defeated top-rated seed and current Under-14 champion Kyle Sandiford of Harrison College.
Renaldo Rochester of Queen’s College and CARIFTA Under-12 champion Leigh Sandiford of Providence are second and third place, respectively, on three and a half points.
