Lewis wins Top Eight

THAT SETTLES it then. Any doubts over Haydn Lewis’ Davis Cup spot have been definitively squashed, just like all his opponents, as the seasoned left-handed veteran capped an incredible tournament run at the Top 8 Invitational by whipping Adam Hornby in yesterday’s final.

Playing in gusty conditions at the National Tennis Centre, Lewis blew over yet another top Bajan player similar to the swirling winds on Stadium Court after breezing to a 6-3, 6-3 win.

It was the fifth straight-sets victory in as many matches for the 29-year-old Bajan No. 2, who was asked to defend his place on the squad at the unofficial Davis Cup trials.

And he more than justified that spot after taking command from the get-go with an assortment of weapons – none more authoritative than his booming first serve and an equally overpowering forehand.
