A dry tap Christmas
IT’S BEEN a white Christmas for the people of St Joseph – a white bucket Christmas that is.
Yesterday, as thousands of residents across the island sat down to their Christmas lunches in their freshly scrubbed homes, hundreds of people in the eastern parish were just happy to turn a tap at a standpipe or community tank and get a trickle of the precious liquid.
From Horse Hill to Airy Hill and many villages in-between, the story was the same – it’s been days for some, weeks for others, without water.
The situation was so dire that some families packed their children off to relatives in other parishes to enjoy the Christmas festivities, while one woman declared she “put the ham back in the fridge” and contented herself with a breakfast of luncheon meat and eggs. (HLE)
