MONDAY MAN: Roy keeping boatbuilding afloat

WOODEN boatbuilding has lost much of its attractiveness as more modern materials, designs and so-called productive techniques take over.

But not for Roy Sealy. It is not because he has to work in order to make money that he continues to build them, but it is simply because he has an urge to create something beautiful.

Shaping wood into sailing masterpieces is an art Sealy has mastered for almost half a century. And today he is one of the few remaining local craftsmen sculpting the island’s rich maritime heritage.

Speaking to the DAILY NATION in Oistins atop another one of his showpieces, he proclaimed the immense gratification he got from building boats.
