BWA staff under fire
WORKERS OF THE Barbados Water Authority (BWA) have fallen victim to threats and attacks from frustrated people in districts with chronic water outages for not delivering in their areas.
Terming the situation “regrettable”, general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Toni Moore, said yesterday that police had been called in some instances. Now the union is advising workers to report incidents to BWA management and to the police, depending on the severity.
During a media briefing that followed a near 90-minute meeting with BWA workers at Solidarity House, Moore urged members of the public to desist from that behaviour.
“This is a kind of approach or response to workers who are operating in circumstances beyond which they have any control that we would want to guard against,” she said.
