SANDALS FOUNDATION, the philanthropic arm of the resort chain, has a year-long partnership with the Trees That Feed Foundation (TTFF) to plant fruit trees and educate children about their importance at a school in Barbados.

Last week the two entities visited the Springer Memorial Secondary School and planted a soursop, mango and a sugar apple tree, much to the delight of Principal Paulyne Benjamin, senior biology teacher William Harper and 23 sixth form agriculture studies students.

Sandra Myers of the TTFF explained that the objectives of the organisation are to eradicate hunger. TTFF plans to plant 1 000 000 trees in ten years and provide sustainable food independence by planting fruit trees.

They are also focused on developing a permanent, economically sound production model as well as donating trees and equipment and providing training in tree care and food production.
