Schools Bolt
APPARENTLY the surface isn’t all that’s running athletes from the Ryan Brathwaite Track.
The price is right in Waterford and, as a result, a number of schools have opted to stage their sports at the National Stadium in spite of the absence of stands. In fact, the price gap between the Waterford facility and the Usain Bolt Sports Complex at the Lazaretto in Black Rock is $700.
Wilkie Cumberbatch principal Margaret St Hill-Pinder confirmed that financial concerns were primarily behind her school’s decision to return to Waterford yesterday as the Stadium welcomed its first school sports for the track and field season.
“We had applied to use the Usain Bolt Sports Complex before but it’s extremely expensive, and that was the deciding factor and I think we’re coping beautifully in my opinion,” she reasoned.
