WITH NO OPTION but to win their two remaining matches in Group A, the Pride effected a decisive win in the first “decider” by 73 runs over the Jamaica Scorpions at the National Cricket Centre.
The victory, which also earned them a bonus point, moved the Pride up to second on 14 points, three ahead of yesterday’s opponents with one game to play.
The win was set up by Dwayne Smith’s measured 86 (10 fours) off 101 balls in a total of 246 for nine off the full 50 overs. The timing could not have been better for a player under scrutiny because of a lack of runs.
“When he was struggling people were saying he shouldn’t be in the team. Obviously the selectors stuck with him because they know what he can do and he’s proven the selectors right,” a relaxed-looking Pride assistant/bowling coach Roddy Estwick noted afterwards.
