Starcom conquer Mason’s XI on night of fun
MAC FINGALL estimated the crowd at the St Catherine Club for the Starcom Network celebrity match on Friday night at 10 074.
A more conservative guess was around 6 000. The official figure yesterday was given at 8 260.
Whatever the number was, the general consensus was that it was arguably the biggest turnout of spectators for a tapeball cricket match in Barbados.
They came in their numbers to Bayfield – which Fingall described as the capital of Barbados.
And they were served a mixture of wonderful entertainment – steel pan music, two songbirds, vocal cheerleaders, attractive water girls, a pool party, comedy and decent cricket.
For the record, Starcom Network, with Ronnie De Announcer Clarke and his Conquering Lions, upstaged a star-studded Michael Lashley’s Elite Mason’s XI, winning by 31 runs on the strength of an impressive 76 from Damian Payne and a five-wicket haul by Andy Blackman. (HG)
