Blackbirds save the day

UWI BLACKBIRDS were just too hot to handle for Rendezvous when the two met on Sunday night in the Barbados Football Association’s Digicel Premier League at the Wildey Astroturf.

The Blackbirds, desperate to avoid another big loss, defeated Rendezvous 2-0 on a cold, wet night with Mario Harte scoring in the 51st minute and Shamari Mark in the 66th.

However, the match that everyone will be talking about this week was the opening encounter between three-time defending champions Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme and the youthful DirecTV Paradise.

The match ended 2-2 but at one stage it looked as if Paradise was going to pull off a stunning upset. BDFSP had to score two late goals in the second half, including one in extra time, to draw level with the Dover lads. (PG)
