Barbados is hub for blackbelly sheep
GREENLAND LIVESTOCK RESEARCH Station in St Andrew has been classified as the hub for black belly sheep in the region and the world.
This according to Ena Harvey, Inter-American Institute for Corporation on Agriculture representative to Barbados. She made this revelation as the High Commissioner of New Zealand, Jan Henderson, toured the facility earlier today.
“We had a team come in from Mexico who trained some our technical people and farmers here on the proper technique of artificial insemination. They informed us that we are in fact sitting on a gold mine and declared Barbados the hub for black belly sheep in the region and the world at large. They further advised that we collect the semen to sell the straws because this particular breed of sheep is in high demand,” she said. (RA)
