Vandals, dumpers warned
PEOPLE dumping illegally, defacing or damaging National Sports Council (NSC) facilities could face prosecution in future.
A tough-talking Minister of Sports Stephen Lashley said yesterday that while he welcomed a partnership between the NSC and the community, there will be zero tolerance with people who vandalise properties and throw garbage on grounds owned by the state-run agency.
Lashley was particularly annoyed that a refrigerator was dumped next to the hard court at Friendship where there were also cooking fuel cans, empty PET bottles, cement blocks, containers and garbage bags.
“We are going to take a strong stance against this. Get it [refrigerator] moved and put up a sign saying illegal dumping is prohibited,” Lashley told NSC officials, who were part of a tour party yesterday inspecting eight facilities in the parishes of Christ Church, St Michael and St James that were highlighted in SUNDAY SUN articles over the past two weeks.
