A ST JOSEPH community banded together yesterday to beat back a fire threatening the home of a resident.

Marlene Kirton-Ross came close to losing her home and possessions when a bush lit behind her house got out of hand and, because of a burst main on in the nearby Cox Hill, there was no water.

When the WEEKEND NATION happened across the Parks Road area in St Joseph, it was covered in swirling ash, thick billowing smoke and residents making mad dashes to the water tank with hoses and buckets.

The upset mother was outside of her home trying to understand what was happening and could not believe someone had lit a fire behind her home, especially on a day when there was no water to properly out it.
