Meth new illegal drug in Barbados

ONE OF THE MOST dangerous illegal drugs has made its way to Barbados’ shores and can have serious implications for the island  if it becomes widely used, says a family therapist and drug prevention activist.

Family therapist Dr Al Layne told the WEEKEND NATION that methamphetamines were the new illegal drugs being used by some of the clients who enrolled at Verdun House  to overcome their addictions.

He made the comments following the recent Substance Abuse Foundation’s workshop on Families Healing Though The Pain Of Addiction held Saturday at the St John rehabilitation facility.

Methamphetamines, also known as “crystal meth” or simply “meth” or “crack”, is an illegal drug in the same class as cocaine and other powerful control substances.
