Pregnant women told to take precautions
LOCAL HEALTH authorities are telling Barbadians to ensure that their surroundings are not havens for mosquito breeding.
An official statement on the Zika virus is causing concern in a number of countries throughout the region, especially in Brazil.
The Ministry of Health said that in light of recent press reports about the risk to pregnant women by the Zika virus, pregnant women and women of childbearing age here needed to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.
The health authorities suggested wearing clothing with long sleeves and pants, especially in the morning and late afternoon.
Other precautions mentioned were the use of mosquito repellents with DEET applied according to manufacturers’ instructions; and sleeping under an insecticide-treated bed net. (JS/PR)
