50th salute ‘worth it’
INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATIONS and their cost came under scrutiny yesterday as Sunday Brass Tacks zeroed in on the golden anniversary.
Some callers to the Starcom Network call-in radio programme said they were opting out of the 50th anniversary celebrations, but the panellists, taken from both sides of the political fence and including independent members, agreed that the milestone was deserving of being marked.
On the panel were chairman of the 50th Anniversary of Independence Celebrations Secretariat, Senator Maxine McClean, one of the founders of the Community Independence Celebrations Felicia Inniss, former high commissioner to Canada Glyne Murray, Ras Jah Iple, and honorary consul in Atlanta, Dr Edward Layne.
