Jones blasts unruly students

MINISTER of Education Ronald Jones is convinced that no principal in Barbados would pick on a child by asking them to keep their school environment clean.

And he got serious support yesterday from another Member of Parliament in bemoaning the lack of discipline being shown by some students.

Jones was speaking in the House of Assembly yesterday on a supplementary to provide the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) with $6 million for payment of salaries and wages, when he shifted his attention to a lack of awareness regarding keeping Barbados clean, especially in the educational system.

The minister was apparently giving his take on a recent national debate involving the continued punishment of a 14-year-old Springer Memorial student who initially refused to pick up a wrapper when ordered to do so by principal Pauline Benjamin, and has now missed classes for a sixth week.
