DESPITE THE ECONOMIC recession, the Barbados Horticultural Society (BHS) has attracted even more booths to this weekend’s Annual Flower and Garden Show.

This has been revealed by BHS president Orson Daisley, who took the Saturday Sun on a preview of the eagerly awaited event on the BHS calendar yesterday.

“Last year was good despite the economic situation. We had a good response and this year we’ve increased the number of stalls that people have here. We’ve moved from about 35 to 43, so people are still interested,” he said.

The president said the society’s headquarters was a hive of activity in the run-up to the two-day event as exhibitors arrived with their blooms for display. The blooms were judged yesterday morning and then arranged in the afternoon for the public.

“All the blooms are local. Everything here is local,” he said.

This year’s show will also feature a seminar, by Whitehouse and Peter Gibbs from the Ministry of Agriculture on how to grow and care for roses. (HLE)
