Franklyn defends GAIA
THE MANAGEMENT OF Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) Inc. does not owe staff anything.
And according to general secretary of the Unity Workers Union (UWU), Caswell Franklyn, it is the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) which owes the workers the now contentious 3.5 per cent for 2011.
“[The] NUPW misrepresented workers and caused them the loss, so they’re going to have to pay it. It’s their fault. The workers did not agree to it . . . . The union got to make good the loss to the workers,” he insisted.
Franklyn, who is a former senior industrial relations officer with the NUPW, claims to represent 125 of the 410 workers at GAIA and he said the workers are being “misled” into thinking that monies are owed to them.
