Town hall meetings on healthcare financing start tonight

THE FIRST IN a series of town hall meetings, designed to canvass public opinion on healthcare financing in Barbados, takes place tonight at the Princess Margaret Secondary School, Six Roads, St Philip.

Starting at 7 p.m., the discussion will focus on how Barbadians can continue to ensure access to affordable high quality healthcare services in the midst of rising economic costs and limited resources.

The panellists will be chief health planner in the Ministry of Health,  Samuel Deane; director of the National Insurance Scheme, Ian Carrington; Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, The UWI, Cave Hill Campus, Dr Justin Robinson; and president of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners, Dr Carlos Chase. The moderator will be retired Permanent Secretary, Lionel Weekes.

The Ministry of Health is inviting the public to participate in the meetings, which will continue on February 9 at Queen’s College; February 16 at The Alexandra School; and February 29 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre. (BGIS)
