WHETHER OF AFRICAN, European or Asian descent, in an independent Barbados we are all Barbadian.
That was Prime Minister Freundel Stuart’s strong message to a diverse audience at the Main Guard, Garrison, yesterday during the launch of the 50th Anniversary Of Independence National Monument Competition.
The Prime Minister said there were “many strands” that had helped to produce “the tapestry that we know as Barbadian culture today; tapestry woven on the loom of the still unfolding Barbadian history”.
Addressing representatives from various sectors including labour, tourism, the Muslim community and heritage interests, the Prime Minister explained the impact of European, African and Indian cultures on the island’s history, considering the population mix.
