Fire destroys one home, damages another

ONE HOUSE WAS COMPLETELY destroyed and another extensively damaged by a fire earlier this morning at Reid Land, Goodland, St Michael.

The fire reportedly started at the home of Verda Babb and her three sons – David, Grantley and Tyrone – which was razed to the ground.

Grantley received burns to the face and was treated at the scene by emergency medical technicians. He was injured trying to salvage some of the family’s possessions from the inferno.

The second home, which was occupied by Marcelle Griffith was damaged, as was a workshop from where Tyrone operated.

A truck parked across the road also received damage from the heat.

The Barbados Fire Service says they received the call around 8:31 a.m. Two water tenders, one tanker and nine officers responded. (BN/AD)
