TEA Day 3: Volcanoes lose early wicket in chase

BRIDGETOWN – Windward Islands Volcanoes, trailing Barbados Pride by 200 runs, reached 28 for one in their second innings at tea on the third day of their regional Professional Cricket League first-class sixth round match at Kensington Oval here Sunday.

The batsman dismissed was opener Tyrone Theophile, who made six before he edged fast bowler Miguel Cummins to wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich.

Earlier, Barbados Pride, resuming from 349 for three at lunch, replying to the Volcanoes’ first innings total of 250, declared at 450 for five with Roston Chase unbeaten 40 and Dowrich not out on 24.  

Shai Hope, who started the day on 98, was eventually dismissed for 162 when he was caught by wicket-keeper Andre Fletcher off the bowling of Shane Shillingford. Hope batted for 382 minutes, faced 276 balls and struck 17 fours.

All-rounder Carlos Brathwaite, who was promoted to No.5, also fell to Shillingford for 27 while Shamarh Brooks was also caught by Fletcher for 18 off the bowling of part-time medium pacer Johnson Charles.

Both Charles and Shillingford took two wickets for 51 and 131 runs respectively. (EZS)
