UPDATE: Oil leak contained

IT IS A LEAK, AND NOT A SPILL.

But officials from the Barbados Port and Simpson Oil Limited (SOL) have contained the oil which started entering the sea at the Port earlier.

Two areas along the quay have been excavated in an effort to pinpoint the location.

“The excavation has shown that the spill is a mere leak in the bunker line that is now well contained,” said Pamela Proverbs, managing director of PRMR Inc.  

The Oil Spill Contingency Plan was implemented as soon as the situation was brought to officials’ attention. 

Teams from Sol, Environmental Protection Department, Barbados Coast Guard and Barbados Port Inc were immediately mobilised to contain the leak and avoid further spillage.  (RA)
