West Indies’ capture of the ICC Under-19 World Cup for the first time yesterday triggered an outpouring of congratulatory messages from senior players, former players, administrators and fans across the region.
Moments after the young West Indians completed a tense five-wicket win with three balls to spare in the final against pre-match favourites India at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Bangladesh, social media was flooded with a wave of glowing accolades.
“What a team! These guys showed the depth and balance of their side. [They] stuck together in tough times and now can celebrate this,” West Indies Test and One-Day International captain Jason Holder tweeted ten minutes after the match. (HG)
