BAYLEY’S PRIMARY SCHOOL was alight with activity yesterday for its annual African Awareness Day.
Coordinator of the event and Class 1 teacher, Shontelle Bynoe, explained that under the theme, Spirit Of The Drums, the students were sensitised about Africa.
“This week each class was assigned a country of Africa as a research project. The students were required to research musical instruments, clothing, masks and jewellery as well as animals found in Africa. Each class also made the flag of the country they were assigned,” she said.
Principal Alfred Cox said the African Awareness Day was a big hit with the children and it encouraged a new way of learning.
Activities for the day included a fashion show among the student body, dances by the Tabia Dancers, the Barbados Landship, the Tuk Band, Mother Sally, Green Monkey, Shaggy Bear, stilt walkers and a display by the Daryll Jordan Secondary School Steel Orchestra. (RA)
